We have been working to translate health research into improved health and wellbeing in the Top End since 2013. Since being established by our founding partners, we have been unified by a common purpose to be a leader in health care, research translation, translational research and education in Northern Australia and across the region.

In 2022, our collaboration, then known as Top End Academic Health Partners (Top End Partners) was accredited as a Research Translation Centre by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). Accreditation recognises our leading role in delivering research excellence for the benefit of the people and communities of the Top End. Today, we are one of 12 accredited Centres in Australia, five of which have a regional, rural or remote focus, and seven of which have a metropolitan or state-wide focus.
In July 2024, the Board endorsed a new name, Top End Aboriginal Health Research Alliance (TEAHRA), and embedded Aboriginal leadership into our strategy hyperlink and governance structure [hyperlink]. Our collaboration also expanded to include three additional Top End Aboriginal community-controlled organisations. TEAHRA has a strong history of prioritising translational health research activities to improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people. Our 2024 name change and new strategy strengthen this focus on Aboriginal health, by ensuring that all our activities centre the leadership and research and health expertise of Aboriginal people, communities, and community-controlled organisations.
- Promoting Aboriginal health service leadership in research and research translation, and addressing priorities directly relevant to Top End health services and populations;
- Codesigning and implementing new translational research across our research priority areas (population health, person-centred care, and health systems);
- Translating existing health-related research that has been codesigned and conducted by and with Aboriginal people and communities;
- Delivering training and education, and building research and research translation capacity and capability;
- Working in partnership to collectively amplify research impact across the Top End and beyond
